Biography

Frances Ann “Fran” Hender, age 88, of Peoria, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, January 23, 2010 at Lutheran Hillside Village.

Fran was born on June 15, 1921 in Davenport, Iowa to Frank and Olive (McCabe) Killian. She married Dr. Herbert Alfred Hender on August 1, 1942 in Davenport. He preceded her in death on October 1, 2006.

Fran is survived by her son, Dr. James Killian (Eve) Hender of Peoria; three granddaughters, Erin (Brian) Weller of Chillicothe, Amy Frances (Dr. Dwayne) McQuitty of Morton, and Elizabeth (Kevin) Shaw of Pekin; and six great-grandchildren, Amanda and Kolbe Weller of Champaign, Allison and Maggie Weller of Chillicothe, Michael Whittaker of Pekin, and Sarah Frances McQuitty of Morton. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, and one sister.

Fran moved to Peoria in 1948 where her husband set up his chiropractic office. She was his office manager for many years. When her husband retired they moved to Florida where she stayed active by traveling with her husband, visiting her granddaughters and great-grandchildren, doing volunteer work, and playing golf and cards with her friends. In 2002 she and her husband moved back to Peoria to Lutheran Hillside Village’s new development to be near their son. She remained active in many activities at Lutheran Hillside village until she became ill last fall.

Cremation rites will be accorded and a private graveside service will be held at a late date. Memorials may be made to Lutheran Hillside Village. Arrangements were made by Richard S. Wilton through Cumerford-Hurd Funeral Home.
